As always the brilliance that is the house of McQueen dazzles us on the runway this year. A collection made of primary colors with a dash of monochromatic in mesh, which was reflected in many collections on the runway this year. Adding a flair of turn of the century designs, patterned mesh and the predominant use of boxy crop tops with plenty of skin, the house of McQueen has struck an artistic note in this years SS 2014 collection.
Well done, Sarah Burton. Carry one and be magnificent.
While most of you were partying, in the US, for Labor Day weekend, I was working.
Of course it’s hard to call it work when you travel in business class on the Pacific Surfliner to San Diego.I highly recommend taking it if you are in California. It is so choice.
View from the Surfliner to San Diego;
Then there is the fact it was to cover a fashion show. With a gorgeous room waiting for me. In the famous San Diego Gaslamp district. Walking distance from the pier.
My room at the Marriot;
Ok, OK I have rubbed it in enough, let’s talk fashion.
Camille Wood is the daughter of a Vogue model and was raised in the dressing room, backstage and on set. Being surrounded by models, fashion, photographers and make up Camille was born into fashion. However we all have our disadvantages and being too short to walk the runway like her mom, she became a fashion designer.
Proving yourself when you are walking in your family’s footsteps is difficult, but Camille has managed to outshine her mother by creating over the top, couture swimsuits and now, her new clothing line Tribal.
I arrived at the Broadway Port Pavilion which is a massive building.
Inside the Kenneth Barlis fashion show was packed with flowing full length gowns, men decked out in suits and array of fine nibbles and beverages. I was very impressed.
With my VIP press pass I headed backstage to a HUGE area that contained multiple designers racks of clothing, make-up artists, hair stylists a food table for crew and more.
I found Camille, who looked beyond beautiful in a white latex dress of her own design. She was busy prepping all the models but made time for everyone and every detail.
The ever radiant Camille Wood working with her model, Kelly Lenahan;
Even though it was hot, humid and took time to get everyone ready, all Camille’s models were in a great mood and full of smiles. We were in the very back of the building by the fresh air off the port of San Diego so the models were happy.
Max Tijerino getting his make up done;
And the head dresses were out of this world.
A Beaming Suzanne Shea Reed in hers;
And Jovane Henry looking FIERCE in hers.
She owned her head-dress. It made me want to buy it.
And at last Javone Henry and Diana Lieziert in full wardrobe and make up.
We decided since we had the very back area of the port pavilion to use it to our advantage. We grabbed all the runway boys and girls we could find and went outside for a photo shoot in the fresh air off the back of the port pavilion. The outfits look good under the spotlight but were dazzling in the sun.

And I got a selfie with my press pass;
When we came back in it was time for the girls to line up. I caught a perfect moment of them being dazzled by sunlight.
Then off to the front of the stage to catch the full show. When I walked out into the crowd I thanked Camille silently for my press pass. It was overly packed and the crowd spilled from the stage all the way into standing room only.
As the show began the first presenters came out wearing Kenneth Barlis couture gowns that were simply jaw dropping.
Then the charity presenter for the event, which helped raise money for Books for Kids in the Philippines was amazing and her story was touching. She came out in a stunning gown as well.
Poor girl was nervous but did an astounding job and made it through her speech.
The first show passed showing amazing ready to wear, that was very California casual. Cute jumpers, Jodhpur pants and leggings with clean designs and cute graph tee’s. Thigh high legging with high-waisted shorts and unisex pants. Super cute and very wearable.
When Camille’s line took the stage it was, overwhelming. Pounding tribal drum beats followed with two very handsome topless models with spears. Girls came out strutting the stage in skin baring outfits with goddess like head dresses. The final piece was a towering Diana Liezert in a backless netted latex dress with a live SNAKE wrapped around her waist! Beyond impressed.
Check out the full runway video I shot below;
I knew there was a reason Camille wanted me to cover this. Her ‘Tribal’ line literally coined the phrase ‘dress to impress’ that night for me. Turns out I wasn’t the only one who was enamored with her clothing that night. Turns out one of the models bought the top she wearing as well.
After seeing her swim line at LAFW and her Tribal line in San Diego, Camille Wood isn’t just one to watch anymore. She’s one to follow, wear and want.
What’s next for Camille? Check out the sounds byte below and get ready for a whole new wave of fashion from Camille Wood.
Huge thanks to Camille Wood for giving me a place to stay. Thanks to Camille Wood and Kenneth Barlis for backstage access. Lastly thanks to San Diego for having me.
As Labor Day weekend is upon us I find there are many things to do;
1) go to Burning Man
2) Got to pool party with mediocre food and drunks college kids
3) Go to EPIC fashion show in San Diego with Couture Gowns……
And of course I will be choosing three.
Kenneth Barlis is known for his events in the south-ish bay. His couture gowns are drool invoking and too fabulous. Not only that but designer, and personal favorite Camille Wood will be there showing her new animal inspired line. Add the beauty of San Diego and its Gaslamp District and I am off on another event covering adventure.
August 30th I will be there in spades (and a really gorgeous outfit) watching the magic happen and documenting it for all. Want to come rub shoulder with me and the other fan-tab-u-lous designers and fashion folk? Then come down! Buy tickets here;
I thought I had seen it all. Thanks to Youtube and DSquared2, I now know that I haven’t.
This very insane and unique video with Jasmine Tookes and Cara D. bring the cray-cray. Shot by the mad genius Senio Zapruder, this video not only has some of the most gorgeous pre-fall 2013 womenswear, but walks the fine line of insanity. Way to go boys, you did it again.
Enjoy the crazy below…..
After covering Chanel and giving the classic side of fashion for fall, it seemed appropriate to give you ladies and gents an eyeful of Fall madness as well.
The ETRO label has always had an eye for creativity in design. Giving us a taste of their brilliance for fall, their designs encompass color and print with angular edges and futuristic diva-tude. They are all about flair and dare and leave the conventional behind.
Helmed by Gimmo Etro, who started the label in 1968, these designs are an alternative to the sullen colors of fall we often see. Think of ETRO as the cure to all your fall blues, scarlet’s and blacks.
Think you can embrace the insanity? ETRO does too. Check out the runway below.
What can I say but REJOICE!! ‘Applause’ is out and upon us. Feast your eyes on the newness that is Lady Gaga’s first new viddy in almost 2 years. The song is perfect GAGA but the wardrobe is just dead on effing beautiful. I’m not sure which I like better.
You may now officially cream your panties kittens. Or as Gaga says…just ‘Applause’.
Even though it’s 90 degrees out and you are still planning next weeks pool party it’s time to get a jump on fall wardrobe. The term ‘always be prepared’ applies her, especially when it comes to shopping!
Being a true fashionista at heart means hours of scouring videos, runways footage and trashy blogs to find you the good stuff. For now let’s start with Unkle Karl’s/Chanel basics for fall.
Think classic tweed with modern leather, over sized glasses mixed with vintage 1930s suits. Bangles that embody both vintage Coco with perfectly placed rhinestones and the new wave of women who prefer fierce, clunky and something with an edge.
Ready to start shopping for the new you en le Monde Chanel?
Excellent. Below are two video’s to give you an edge on winter so you’ll be the head of the pack and queen bee of accessory.
Enjoy Chanel’s Fall/Winter runway for Ready to Wear in 2013/14.
In ‘Women Only’ Karl Lagerfeld manages to bring together LITERALLY every high fashion supermodel in the world for this unique view on Chanel’s Fall/Winter wardrobe.
As Cyndi Lauper tackles Broadway with her new notorious musical ‘Kinky Boots’ her gorgeous face is everywhere. Not only has she scored a lead on Broadway but she also conquered a photo shoot as MAC’s new ‘Viva Glam’ spokeswhore with an almost nude, very skinny, Lady Gaga.
Check out these two new photo shoots of Cyndi Lauper looking too fabulous for everyone (including Gaga)!
Yes! That’s right! I’m having plastic surgery. No not on my fabulous face. This time it’s just a revamp of the site. New themes, colors, drop down menu’s and even ad space (get out your wallets kiddies)!!
Posts will continue as usual but instead of the drab ole free theme you are staring at I am getting fancy and upgrading to a kinder, simpler, and more fun HeathyrWolfe.com. Guest Bloggers, photo galleries of everything you never wanted to see. Oh, and event coverage. I know you loooove red carpets and Hollywood weirdos.
If you haven’t acquainted yourself with up and coming designer Monika Chiang, now is the perfect time to. Having just received an email about her fabulous shoes I thought I ought to give her website a quick spin. Always, a great idea for a new Spring/Summer wardrobe, and bad idea for my bank account. Because….I want everything! But instead I’ll share a few key pieces I love.
The “LAVA SWAROVSKI STONE NECKLACE, BLACK”
This necklace oozes charm, style and a classic chic with a twist. The black lava chain gives it an industrial feel while the Swarovski classes it up enough to wear to a nice function. Absolutely a statement piece his screams little black dress and should be paired with something as fabulous as…..
These shoes. These shoes that I am DYING for.
Lace-up sexy with a high heel to keep you above the rest the “IMENA LACE UP SANDAL, BLACK” screams La Femme Nikita. If James Bond ever turned int a woman she would bust these out. Seductress? Stiletto Sexy? Head turner? All of the above. I adore shoes so of course these are a must have on my list.
However, I am a woman on the go. I need to look smashing while being a little functional. Nothing says business like a black leather brief a la bag. I need a purse that screams business bitch, yet charms the man I am with.
Thankfully my search is over with the ever charming, “GABON LEATHER MESSENGER BAG”.
This is functional, classy and is wearable for casual dates with jeans and those^ heels (Imena has my heart). The Gabon has extra zippers for an ‘edge’ and is easily carried or worn cross shoulder if you have to hit the subway.I love the look leather gets after elongated wear. Leather is forever and can last through numerous business meetings, airline flights and keep me looking classy.
Have I piqued your interest my fashionista’s? Good. Go shop the Monika Chiang collection here:
Fashion Week in LA was absolutely well done and gorgeous this year. I did miss some highlights and events, but one must pick and choose very wisely.
‘LA Runway’, event by Parris Harris Entertainment was an excellent choice especially since hey were doing a food drive for the LA Mission’s.
I brought another part of our Fast Lane Magazine editorial team, Rene Rivers with me to the event. One must always have fashionable friends with you. Rene Rivers (StyledbyRene.com) is a stylist, I knew she would enjoy the runway and clothing.
We checked in early so we got to watch run through’s and set up.
It’s always nice to know what you are getting into.
In Los Angeles we’ve had our issues with Fashion Week. This year however was organized and brilliant. In LA we aim to achieve more than NYFW by including the strange, unusual and always unexpected. I’m pleased to say Parris Harris Entertainment really went above and beyond with this show. Although it was a lengthy 4 hours it was worth every minute.
HUGE Thanks to Parris Harris. He seated in the front so we got a really clear view.
Front Diva. It’s what being a Fashion Editor is all about.
The place was packed.
I swear I though people would start swinging from the rafters. It was THAT kind of packed.
We were lucky to here a few kind words from one of the chair of the LA mission who serves over 2,000 meals a day here in Los Angeles to the homeless and needy. This woman is a saint.
After intro’s from the talented Alicia Hardesty & the LA Mission L Runway at Mansion rocked it with sexy Brazilian hitting the runway. Ay Mami!
If anyone ever says LA is boring again I am hiring these girls to come over. They WRECKED the runway.
Other AMAZING performances were by a high energy girl group called The Dolls
A one woman show who gives Lady Gaga a run for her money (somebody email this girls number to me), Spankie Valentine.
Spankie is not only gorgeous but she knows how to work a stage, an audience and bring the music. She’s got talent and style. Obviously influenced by Diva’s like Beyonce, Janet Jackson with a tiny dash of 80’s glam costuming. She’s got sass and flash and is definitely someone to keep an eye and ear on.
Check out pics from her ferosh stage show;
An amazing 9 year old songstress with a BIG voice Rianna
And one of the most talented violinst’s I have ever seen.
The Musicians were top notch and I will be forever grateful I got to see them perform each of their unique talents.
Six designers were featured on the runway throughout the evening. All the designers were amazing my favorites were Camille Wood, Jewelry Designer Carol Lynn Sweet of Sweet Designs and my friend Shekhar Rahate (you still owe me a drink!). I will be doing a piece on Carol’s jewelry line later this week but for now go check out here pieces at;
For crazy fun and swim/clubwear with some sass look no further than Camille Wood.
Camille has a killer smile, a mass of blond hair and is just all around fun. Her fashion is exactly the same with an addition of fantasy and swimsuits made for killer bodies. She topped them all with elegant and bejeweled headdresses making for a perfect outfit for the modern day Cleopatra. Or ballsy girl who loves to show shes more than the average beach girl.
Shekhar Rahate ended the show with classic beauty. His dresses have been seen on stars and celebrities at The Grammys, Helium Magazine, LA Fashion Week and at NY Fashion Week. The man is a master of his trade and produces nothing short of elegance.
Most of the dresses featured in Shekhar (literally meaning sugar) Rahate’s collection were lean, long and full of feminine grace. Gold hues mixed with Indian prints. Flowers printed silks and cottons were topped with elegant headdresses Definitely the man to go to for a red carpet dress.
Starting out London Fashion Week full force, Alice Temperley took a classic 40’s inspired look adding dashes of golds and blue to accentuate the long linear figures. Drawing heavily on Art Deco and early sixties chic, Temperley still managed to present a very modern look including the ever trendy over sized jackets, boatneck and high collars we have seen all over runways this year.
Her full length gowns wrecked the runway this year with elongated silhouettes. I can see Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton or some other ethereal goddess wearing these to award season. They are chic in design, geometric shaping and linear quality making any woman look tall and lean.
Bravo Miss Temperley.

As August set’s in, it is time to start shopping for your fabulous and very luxe wardrobe. As I spoke of before fur covered everything is all the rage and DKNY has already released its first set of ‘hair’ inspired accessories. Add ‘Apocalypse Now’ weather in New York City and winter is looking extra tough.
The question raises well-groomed eyebrows everywhere. What to do, and where to shop?
Idra Alta Moda darling!
I know I have sung their praises before. Now that I have met and spoken with the owner, Jessica Soifer, I am in LOVE. This company devastates me, along with their jackets, capes, ear muffs, etc.
Feeling the need for classy, sexy, furry? You can even shop for your hunny with their MENSWEAR LINE (gasp)! Check out their Fall/Winter 2012 lookbook;
Like what you see? So do I!
I am literally ‘In Love’. That last jacket WILL be mine.
I love these. All these looks are classically inspired and can be worn with anything. A night at the Met or heading out to get drunk with drag queens.
For a truly metropolitan and/or continental look these sleek jackets are perfect for LA/NY/Paris. Too sleek and sexy for words is the well named, ‘Collezione’ by Idra Alta Moda.
I am terribly sorry if the gorgeous, fabulous and well-dressed men are feeling left out. I haven’t been blogging men’s fashion. Thank goodness for small and well thought out fashion collections, Idra Alta Moda has you covered.
For the man who dresses better than I do.
Last but hardly least Idra Alta Moda do custom wear as well as accessories.What about this fierce purse?! I am adding this to my collection for winter.
Idra Alta Moda is indeed a collection to watch and covet.
They are taking over the Fall/Winter 2012 fashion fur/leather scene. If you have met the owner, possibly the world. (Word is she is secretly in cahoots with Adolfo Sanchez in LA and a Russian designer who makes out-of-this-world clothing. More on that later)
