It’s a Jolly old time to shop for gifts. DO’s and Don’ts for Buying for you special someone.

It’s the Holidays! Trying to find a gift for your significant other today is extremely difficult. Gift guides are everywhere. There is a great deal information out there and what to buy for your significant other, it becomes a ‘job’. According to figures derived from a national survey completed by the HuffPost, the average couple spend up to $300 on their partner.  Here are 3 tips for taking a daunting project, and making it easy to do;

Do’s

  1. Make it from the heart. Always think about the person first. It’s not about what they need, it’s about who they are. Don’t buy an impersonal gift.

 

  1. Customized gifts for your significant other makes people happy. Every girl loves jewelry. Or get a customized watch or cufflinks for him. If you are married get your rings engraved to commemorate a special moment you shared.

 

  1. Experiences mean more to people than things often do. Want to really surprise your love? Get tickets to Paris. Go hot air ballooning in Napa. Or just go simple and local. A 15 minute  romantic walk alone with your hunny during the holidays madness. An experience,  like no other,  means you love them AND want to spend time with them.

There are lots of right gifts to buy for your special someone, but what about the wrong? This leaves the problem of finding what you want.

Stay away from boring basics.  Instead, put a gift card from her favorite store under the tree with card telling her you will take her shopping. Perfume and lingerie bought by you for her can be difficult to get right. Why not, make her own custom perfume at a perfumery. Ask the sales girl for help to get it just right. If you want to get lingerie, don’t go low end. Try La Perla or Cosabella for great lingerie that fits. It’s available online, and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

For him, tie’s, socks and tools are a huge no-no. There are better ways to say, “I love you”. In today’s market, boys want toys.  If you are unsure what to buy him, try nice clothing. A custom tailoring appointment for your favorite business man, buying him custom jeans, even shoes.  Men in the U.S. spent $26.2 billion on footwear in 2016, an increase of $2.4 billion since 2014, the Boston Globe reported. There is a serious market for shoe’s and it’s the one thing you know he will he love. Often the best policy is to ask what they want. They may just answer you.

The best holiday gift you can give your significant other?  Listen to what they say, what makes them truly happy and seeing them smile.

Giving to the people, from the people rarely exists these days. Half the charities out there are a tax shelter and the other one’s don’t get any love unless helmed by a celebrity.

But wait! There is hope.

There are those of us on this planet who live with our heart on our sleeve and actually acknowledge human suffering on this planet just….to help. We’re talking about the small donations and ‘random acts of kindness’, YOU bring into this world.

That is why I stood up and became part of Lisa Reilly Photography’s AMAZING Survivor Campaign.

Lisa, who I met at LAFW had originally approached me with this campaign asking me if I would be willing to help raise funds and awareness for Cancer Survivors and their families, who are unable to pay for treatment or are left with hundreds of thousands of bills.

I was happy to help. I also joined this campaign, being a Cancer survivor myself.

In 2013, I went for a routine check up and found out I had cervical cancer. I had to have surgery, which saved my life but left me with permanent complications and painful memories. However, they managed to cut the cells out of my body before they did major harm. I was a lucky one.

As I worked on this campaign other began to help as well. Tracie May-Wagner, CEO of May-Wagner PR contacted me. She wanted to help. She brought her client, the amazing Victor Wilde of The Bohemian Society on board. He in turn donated two pieces of his SS 2014 collection. Proving to me that there is ALWAYS support.

Shooting with Lisa underwater was extraordinary. It took everything I was doing this for and changed it.Not only was I helping others who have been through and going through pain, but I created something positive out of my Cancer experience. I never thought I could look back at this as more than a charitable session but it really changed how I look back at having had Cancer and is giving me a chance to empower others that have had it.

The women pictured in Lisa’s campaign have all fought and lived with Cancer. The women above have Stage 4 Aggressive cancer, survived a double mastectomy and cervical cancer. Going through chemotherapy and severe treatments that have costed them time, sanity, health and a small fortune.

One of the few celebrities a la songstress I am enjoying these days is Rihanna. She has been up, down, fought the nipple censorship on Instagram and got past the foolishness that was Chris Brown. She has made waves in Fashion, both good and bad and then good again. She is pretty much done more in her early twenties than most achieve in lifetime and is bold as F**K.

Riri’s latest amazing campaign with MAC VIVA GLAM is just that.

Not only does she look stunning and the subtext of an all green Rihanna MAC Viva Glam Campaign, is not lost on us (4:20 much?). It screams Rihanna, being over the top, without looking too Nicki Minaj. This collaboration truly is proving that Rihanna is full of win, and knows how to work it like no other bitch in the industry (Except Queen B).

 

As awesome as Rihanna is working it, let’s get back to the VIVA GLAM make up for a second.

The new colors have a little tang of retro coming in an icy purple, leaving you frosty sexy. This grape color makes us at Heathyrwolfe.com, want to lick our own lips. I swear I saw this color all over the 70’s and resurfaced in 90’s. In fact I think I had this color at one point and used it to the nub.

McQueen, Meisel & Moss #Fashion #Editorial #Win

Ok, before you ask where has this lovely bloggy been, I have been deathly ill with the flu for  the 2 and a half time. This thing is easy to get apparently if you work at a 50,000 person convention for four days.

But that isn’t what you are here for is it?

My flu story can wait for another day. Fashion, is what really matters on this page. Especially the World of McQueen.

Sarah Burton has my support in spades. She is genius and is carrying on the McQueen legacy with aplomb. Take the newest fashion campaign. Hiring the ever talented Steven Meisel was smart. But genius stepped in when they added the omnipresent Kate Moss.

With creative direction from Pascal Dangin of KIDS, the 4 completed what can only be looked at as an astounding, and very surreal campaign. There is a mini Kate doll in these photos and I’m not sure whether I am more stunned by her or it. Most likely it’s the over all imagery. Intense, bold, beautiful and blue. The hues create the perfect campaign. Well done House of McQueen and Kate Moss. You’ve once again brought art into fashion.

And the campaign video is amazing as well. Very surreal with a nice creep factor.

Miley Does Marc….Jacobs that is. #SS2014 #Campaign

After seeing articles in the Huffpost, and spread across Facebook like some mad Miley disease I finally gave in, and took a look at Marc Jacobs SS 2014 Campaign. I expected to frankly, HATE it. I am over Miley Cyrus, here twerking, her tongue, and her goddam wrecking ball. I don’t really want to see her naked and smoking a blunt. That is why this totally took me by surprise;

I now believe in God. Or that God believes in Marc Jacobs.

This is astounding. Androgynous, and utterly beautiful. It shows a Miley Cyrus that is deep, genuine and stunning. Who knew?

When I got the actual campaign in my inbox and understood completely. Marc Jacobs has been working with Miley Cyrus on the skin cancer campaign. Featuring a bevy of nude celebs, as well as Cyrus. The campaign slogan is ‘Love the skin you’re in’ and the tee’s are racy, sexy and fun.

When Marc decided to feature Miley is his editorial campaign it came as no surprise. However, this is truly is. This is Marc Jacobs making art.

It was for WWD Magazine! And it is a stunning editorial. He captured his line in spades. No wonder this came out as stunning art. I really have to say that the full photo has such intensity it reminds me why I am in the business.

Because Fashion is art. And if you cannot see the art in fashion, you probably should not be in it. And yes, you can quote me on that.

Bespoke Listeni/biˈspk/ is a British English word that means a clothing item made to a buyer’s specification (personalised or tailored). While the term historically is applied to only men’s tailored clothing, it now generally includes footwear and other apparel, implying measurement and fitting.

Welcome to the world of House of Eleven. A bespoke clothing line that has not only won my heart, but is now No. 1 on my Xmas shopping list.

Started by the Silva Twins, Darcey and Stacey, around 2 years ago, this line has coming out as a ‘cut’ above the rest. They are winning over the fashion industry at large, but also, a HUGE celebrity clientele.

The event was at the historic downtown LA bar/club, The Falls. When I arrived it was already packed. So much for being fashionably late.

The crowd included everyone from local reality stars, to buyers, fashion TV and agency photographers. Some of the admirers and celebrities present were  Angie Everhart, Vianey Arana(Miss California Latina)and  Apollonia Kotero.  Caroline D’Amore showed up earlier and I missed her. She is the runway model who notoriously flipped off reality trash Scott Disick and a Jenner, for being drunk and disorderly in the front row of a runway she was walking recently. Besides being gorgeous, I love her for that, and wish I could have told her so.

I caught Jennifer Jimenez, RHOBH friend of Brandi Glanville, with my cell totally by accident.

However the reason I go to these is not the celeb heavy crowd. That is an easy draw in LA but I truly came for the clothes.

House of Eleven is beyond what I hoped. The Spring/Summer 2014 collection consists over piece’s with breathable leather in creams, grays, blacks, and some really nice splashes of coral pink. Everything is well-stitched, tasteful with an edge, includes sexy and playful leather trim and made for all body types. The thought of wearing leather during a hot day or night in Los Angeles seems unbearable. Yet, looking at the make of the design you see House of 11 has made it light and breathable, without sacrificing design.

I did get to corner the fabulous twins, Darcey and Stacey Silva, for a moment to grill them about the their line. Turns out this line is a true LA story.

Born and raised here in LA, they began House of Eleven just a little under two years ago.

After only three fashion seasons, they are bi-coastal, with boutiques in LA and NY. I am beyond impressed to find out have incredible backing by; fabulous celebrity clientele, international recognition, work with amazing PR representation and are busy, busy, busy.

Here’s where the story brings the ‘awwwz’. They are single, hard-working moms, with NO previous design/seamstress experience, and are completely self-taught. With incredible designs that are double stitched, bespoke with perfect designs(leather can buckle and get wavy if seams are done badly) and lines for Women, Men and Children, you have to wonder how they do it.

Obviously, quite well.

After talking to Darcey and Stacey they handed me a lovely packaged ‘Hof11’ gift box with their cards. Way to sway this blogger ladies. I love gifts!

I met one of the CEO’s, Michael and we talked business,’Hof11′ background, and how badly I wanted his ‘Hof11’ shirt. I have to thank them for putting on an amazing event and introducing me to the talented Silva twins. And House of Eleven my newest addition to my wardrobe this spring/summer.
